Key scores: Vinous 100 (Antonio Galloni); Wine Advocate 100 (William Kelley/Lisa Perrotti-Brown commentary); Decanter 99 (Jane Anson); James Suckling 97-99; Jeb Dunnuck 96-98
Tasting Note
Concentrated yet airy red: Morello cherry, raspberry, wild blueberry, rose petal, white pepper and exotic spices, underpinned by chalky limestone minerality and saline lift. Polished, precise tannins, vibrant acidity and a very long, mouthwatering finish.
Food Pairing
Western: roast lamb, ribeye/côte de boeuf, duck breast, mushroom risotto, aged cheeses. Asian: Peking duck, char siu, Korean BBQ short ribs, braised beef rendang, soy-braised short ribs or shiitake mushroom dishes.
Production Method
Hand-harvested, vinified by parcel in temperature-controlled vats with extended maceration; aged ~18 months in French oak (about 50% new) with careful élevage to preserve freshness and minerality.
Vineyard Info
Château Canon (Wertheimer/Chanel ownership since 1996) farms ~34 ha on the Saint-Émilion limestone plateau; noted for precision Merlot/Cabernet Franc blends and recent investments in vineyard renewal and organic practices.
