Robert Parker (Wine Advocate) ~93 (92–94*), James Suckling 95, Wine Spectator 89–92, Neal Martin ~90–91, Jancis Robinson 17/20; praised for intensity, structure and long finish
Tasting Note
Ripe cassis, blackberry and plum backed by smoked cedar, forest-floor and flinty minerality. Very full-bodied, viscous and silky with plush fruit, integrated oak spice and a long, chalky finish.
Food Pairing
Western: grilled ribeye, entrecôte, roast lamb, duck breast, venison, mushroom ragù. Asian: Peking duck, Cantonese char siu, Korean BBQ (bulgogi/galbi), beef rendang, milder mapo tofu, umami-rich mushroom hot pot.
Production Method
Hand-harvested; plot-by-plot fermentation in stainless steel and oak vats; matured 16–20 months in oak barrels (significant proportion new oak), then blended and bottled.
Vineyard Info
Carruades de Lafite is the second wine of Château Lafite Rothschild (Pauillac), owned by the Rothschild family. Made from younger/adjacent plots, it reflects Lafite’s style with broader accessibility and strong ageing potential.
