Awards/Ratings

Noted reviews: World of Fine Wine 94+ for the 2021 Corton-Charlemagne; critics praised its purity, minerality and long finish

Tasting Note

Pale gold; poised citrus, white peach and tangerine with honeysuckle, toasted almond and stony/mineral undertones. Elegant, restrained creaminess, bright acidity and a long, saline finish.

Food Pairing

Western: lobster, scallops, roast chicken with cream, pork with apple, aged Comté. Asian: miso-glazed black cod, sashimi, tempura prawns, Cantonese steamed fish, mild Thai coconut curries.

Production Method

Hand-harvested, rigorous sorting; whole-berry pressing, fermentation in French oak (indigenous yeasts), malolactic fermentation and élevage in oak with part transferred to steel; bottled after extended aging (c.12–18 months).

Vineyard Info

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti began producing Corton-Charlemagne from 2.9 ha leased (Bonneau du Martray) from 2018; parcels farmed to high conservation/biodynamic standards. Very limited Grand Cru production.
