Awards/Ratings
Notable critics: Burghound 94 (Allen Meadows), Wine Spectator ~94, Robert Parker/The Wine Advocate ~92, Jancis Robinson 17. 5/20 — reviewers note classically floral, spicy, concentrated profile and long finish
Tasting Note
Concentrated, elegant Pinot Noir: ripe red and black fruits (strawberry, raspberry, blackberry), floral violets and rose, anise/clove spice, earthy/gamey and saline mineral notes; firm polished tannins and a long, powerful finish
Food Pairing
Western: roast duck, lamb, game birds, mushroom and truffle dishes, roasted red meats, aged hard cheeses. Asian: Peking (roast) duck, char siu / Cantonese roast pork, braised beef short ribs, shiitake/miso dishes, Korean bulgogi, rich teriyaki or hoisin-glazed dishes.
Production Method
Hand-harvested, meticulous sorting; partial destemming with a relatively low share of whole clusters in 2006, fermented in small tanks/vats and matured in French oak (including some new oak for shorter periods) before racking to older barrels. Low-yield Grand Cru vinification.
Vineyard Info
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC), led by Aubert de Villaine, is a historic Burgundian domaine owning several Grand Cru parcels including Grands-Échezeaux (~3.5 ha holding for DRC). Extremely low production and world-class reputation.
