Awards/Ratings
Neal Martin (Vinous) 95-97, drinking window approx. 2027–2047; Tim Atkin 96. Retail listings report 95–97 Vinous and high critical praise for depth, precision and ageing potential
Tasting Note
Powerful, layered Montrachet: orange pith, lemon verbena, lemon curd, white orchard fruit, floral and spice notes. Velvety texture with a hint of walnut on the very long, precise finish — built for aging.
Food Pairing
Western: roasted lobster, scallops with beurre blanc, roast chicken, creamy pasta, foie gras. Asian: miso-glazed black cod, tempura prawns, sushi (fatty tuna), Cantonese steamed fish with ginger and scallion, rich Thai coconut-based seafood curries.
Production Method
Hand-harvested Grand Cru Chardonnay; indigenous yeast fermentation; aged in oak barrels (2022 mainly in one-year-old casks, minimal/new oak); lees ageing and careful barrel maturation before bottling.
Vineyard Info
Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard, founded 1985 in Chassagne-Montrachet; Celine Fontaine leads since 2007. Roughly 12 hectares including Le Montrachet, Bâtard and Criots holdings; traditional Burgundian practices.
