Tasting Note
Perfumed red-fruit core of red plum, cherry and redcurrant with strawberry and blueberry, layered with pink pepper, black pepper, anise and bay leaf. Silky, fine-grained tannins, lively acidity and a long, spice-driven finish.
Food Pairing
Western: roast lamb, grilled ribeye, braised wagyu brisket, aged cheddar. Asian: Korean BBQ (bulgogi), Sichuan pepper beef, char siu/hoisin pork, lamb rendang, teriyaki duck.
Production Method
Old‑vine Shiraz destemmed and lightly crushed into small concrete open‑top fermenters; submerged cap and twice‑daily pump‑overs, pressed after 7–10 days to hogsheads (87% French, 13% American; ~16% new) and matured 18 months before blending and bottling.
Vineyard Info
Made by the Henschke family (est. 1868). The Wheelwright is from old‑vine Shiraz planted in 1968 on Eden Valley high country; released as a single‑vineyard expression within Henschke’s Eden Valley range.
