Tasting Note
Medium–full-bodied Margaux with ripe blackcurrant, black cherry and violet, plus clove, cinnamon and graphite. Silky, fine‑grained tannins, fresh acidity and a mineral, minty finish; concentrated yet elegant with long, refined persistence.
Food Pairing
Western: roast lamb, beef tenderloin, steak au poivre, duck, aged Comté or Gouda. Asian: Peking duck, char siu (Cantonese BBQ pork), Korean BBQ (bulgogi), milder mapo tofu, grilled shiitake with soy glaze.
Production Method
Hand‑harvested grapes with strict selection; fermentation in temperature‑controlled vats (and oak vats when used); malolactic fermentation; aged 18–24 months in French oak barrels (approximately 50–60% new).
Vineyard Info
Second wine of Château Margaux (Pavillon Rouge since 1908). Estate in Margaux; quality significantly improved after André Mentzelopoulos (1977). Pavillon Rouge often uses top plots and approaches the Grand Vin in style.
