James Suckling 95 points (2017). Reserve des Célestins regularly receives mid-90s scores from critics (Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Vinous) for top vintages
Tasting Note
Concentrated black and red fruits, garrigue, leather, tobacco and spice. Full-bodied and silky with fine, integrated tannins and an exceptionally long, savory finish.
Food Pairing
Western: roasted lamb, beef stews, coq au vin, mushroom risotto, aged cheeses. Asian: Peking duck, char siu (Cantonese BBQ pork), Korean BBQ (bulgogi), braised five-spice beef, rich Sichuan dishes.
Production Method
Traditional whole-bunch fermentation in concrete vats; long ageing in old foudres and French oak barrels for 3–5 years; minimal intervention.
Vineyard Info
Small family domaine (since 1667). Henri Bonneau (1938–2016) crafted small-production, La Crau-focused Châteauneuf-du-Pape; estate now run by his son Marcel with longstanding cellar practices.
