Tasting Note
Concentrated black cherry, plum and blackberry with violet and lavender florals, black olive, licorice, cedar spice and cocoa. Polished, fine-grained tannins, bright acidity and a long, savory finish.
Food Pairing
Western: grilled ribeye, roast lamb, mushroom risotto, aged Parmesan, braised short ribs. Asian: Peking duck, char siu pork, Korean BBQ (galbi), soy/hoisin-glazed beef, miso-marinated dishes.
Production Method
Hand-harvested Merlot; fermented in concrete/steel with selected yeasts at ~26°C, long maceration; aged ~18–20 months in 100% new French oak barriques; bottled with minimal filtration.
Vineyard Info
Le Macchiole, founded 1983 by Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli in Bolgheri, farms ~24 ha organically. Messorio (first vintage 1994) is the estate's flagship 100% Merlot from low-yield parcels.
