Tasting Note
Blackcurrant, plum and violets with graphite, cedar and tar notes. Palate shows steeped fig, bitter chocolate and black tea, super-silky tannins and a long, refined finish.
Food Pairing
Western: roast rack of lamb, beef Wellington, duck breast with berry sauce, mushroom risotto. Asian: Peking duck, Cantonese roast duck, char siu, beef bulgogi, richer Szechuan or Korean stews (not overly spicy).
Production Method
Hand-harvested and rigorously sorted; fermented in oak and stainless vats with ~2–3 week maceration; malolactic fermentation; aged 18–24 months in French oak barrels (portion new oak).
Vineyard Info
Pavillon Rouge is the historic second wine of Château Margaux (name adopted 1908). Under the Mentzelopoulos family (since 1977) selection and quality rose; often made from estate parcels close to the Grand Vin.
