Tasting Note
Deep, concentrated black fruit—blackberry and plum—layered with black truffle, licorice, cedar and dark chocolate. Monumental, unctuous texture with silky yet substantial tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish; ages for decades.
Food Pairing
Roast lamb, beef Wellington, aged cheeses; duck with mushrooms; Asian: Peking duck, braised beef short ribs, shiitake mushroom dishes, rich Cantonese or Sichuan red-meat preparations.
Production Method
Hand-harvested grapes; fermentation in temperature-controlled concrete/stainless vats with extended maceration; aged ~18–22 months in new French oak barrels; usually bottled unfiltered.
Vineyard Info
Pétrus is a tiny (≈11.4 ha) Pomerol estate on blue clay soils, long-managed by the Moueix family; famed for concentrated Merlot and very limited production.
